World Newa: Day celebrated in Patan Museum

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aprl.1: Newa: Guthi New York and the Heritage Conservation Mega Campaign Celebrate World Newa: Day at Patan Museum on Monday. 

Newa: Guthi New York has been working to preserve Nepal’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage from New York, USA. 

The organisation has successfully repatriated 21 stolen statues and Paubhas paintings that had been taken from Nepal and ended up in New York.

Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol pledged financial support for the legal, administrative, and other necessary processes involved in bringing back these historic and archaeological artifacts. 

If the heritage belongs to Lalitpur, Lalitpur Metropolitan City will bear the expenses, and if it belongs to Kathmandu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City will cover the costs, said the Mayor of Lalitpur and Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu during the programme. 

Deputy Mayor Dangol and Mayor Maharjan also stated that the repatriated artifacts would be placed back in their original locations with proper arrangements.

Bijay Man Singh, the President of Newa: Guthi New York, presented certificates of appreciation to teams, media personnel, and organisations promoting the Nepalbhasa language for their direct and indirect contributions to the heritage conservation mega campaign.

Additionally, certificates of appreciation and honours were awarded to all Guthi and Khala involved in constructing and maintaining the chariot used in the Rato Machhindranath Jatra, ensuring the successful completion of the festival.
