Amar Raj Naharki,Tanahun, Aprl.1: At a time when men have largely dominated music video direction, Babita Shrestha’s journey in the field was not easy.
However, her bold steps have positioned her at the forefront of modern, pop, and folk duet music video direction, setting an example that women, too, can be capable directors.
Initially, her family was worried that she might go astray in this profession, but after earning both fame and fortune through her work, her family has also been happy.
Her contributions have also strengthened the presence of women in video direction.
As the president of the Nepal Music Video Directors’ Society, Shrestha has become a shining star in the field.
With most of the songs with her music direction gaining popularity, her workload has significantly increased.
Having earned both name and success in music video direction, Shrestha has become an inspiration for other women.
She has directed over a thousand music videos and has been actively working in the field since 2011.
Many of her videos have crossed millions of views.
Her music video includes ‘Kasto Thiye Kasto Bhaye Hera Malai,’ sung by Pramod Kharel, has amassed 268,741 views so far on YouTube.
Six years ago, her music video ‘Hajarko Note, ’ sung by Bishnu Majhi, gained immense popularity.
With hit music videos like ‘Sapana Pura Hudaina Bhanchhan,’ and ‘Timi Hidne Bato Malai Kin Pyaro Lagchha, she never had to look back.
Shrestha believes in bringing novelty to music videos, and as a result, her workload has significantly increased.
Born in a Newar family in Pulchowk, Lalitpur, she had an inclination toward music and acting from a young age.
Her journey in music video direction began with the song ‘Himal Pari.’
Shrestha has received numerous awards, including the Sundara Devi Popular Award, International Box Office Music Award for Best Music Video Direction, Music Khabar Music Award, National Power Music Award, The Bindabasini Music Award, and Jyoti Films Music Award.
While her family initially feared she had chosen the wrong path, they now take pride in her achievements in the music video industry.
Recently, songs whose music she directed like ‘Uttaulo Jawani’, ‘Mero Bhagya Ma Na Lekheko Manchhe,’ ‘Maya Bikrima Chha,’ ‘Gharna Ghatko,’ ‘Dharo Dharma Satya,’ ‘Jindagani Ke Chha Ra,’ ‘Mero Dukha Mero Pida,’ ‘Mayako Byapari,’ and ‘Mayako Praman’ have gained significant recognition.
Despite directors playing a crucial role in a video’s success, Shrestha feels disheartened when their contributions are overlooked.
In addition to directing, Shrestha is also skilled in event coordination.
