Two cycling school students killed as tanker hits them

By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, Mar 23: Two school students on cycles died when a water tanker hit their cycle at Betahani Chowk in Duduwa Rural Municipality-2 in Banke district this afternoon.

Dipak Patali, DSP and spokesperson at the Banke District Police Office, informed that he had received information that the two children were on a cycle going back home from Naurigaudhi English Medium School when they were hit by the tanker with registration number Bhe 1 Kha 1417.

Locals have stopped traffic along the Betahani Chowk in protest of the accident and surrounded the local police post where the driver of the tanker has been kept. Irate locals have set the tanker ablaze.

The police even resorted to blank fire to disperse the protesting mob as they pelted stone at the police post.

Haridwar Gadiya, father of one of the deceased child, blamed that the tanker driver was drunk and that he killed the children by gearing the tanker back. The bodies of the children have remained at the accident site as the locals have obstructed the police to pick them up for postmortem and other related processes.
