Kathmandu, Mar.21: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has decided to provide free medicines for heart attacks from three federal hospitals in the country.
Organizing a program MoHP informed that the decision has been made to provide free medicines against heart attack from three federal hospitals, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Bir Hospital and Bharatpur Teaching Hospital.
Director of the Supply Management Division of the Department of Health Services, Dr Pawan Jung Rayamajhi said that Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Bir Hospital and Bharatpur Teaching Hospital will provide free medicine for heart attacks.
According to the Ministry, it has been observed that many people from humble backgrounds fail to buy costly medicine against heart attack thereby resulting in loss of life and organ failure.
The medicine for heart attack is costly, worth around Rs 200,000.
The representative of Burn Heart Worldwide handed over the medicine, provided by direct refill, to Health Minister Pradip Paudel amid a program organized by the Health Ministry.
Addressing the program, Health Minister Pradip Paudel said that the medicine is being provided without cost as many lives that can be saved with timely treatment are lost because of failing to get costly lifesaving drugs to treat heart attacks.
He said that medicine is being provided from three hospitals that employ senior neurologists adding that it will be provided as per need by procuring it more.
