Nepal defeats Singapore in friendly football match

Kathmandu, March 21: Nepal has defeated Singapore by 1-0 in a friendly football match held at the Singapore National Stadium earlier today.     

Nepal striker Jellespi Jung Karki scored the only goal of the match in the 12th minute, utilizing a cross by Manish Dangi.     

This is Nepal's first ever goal and win against Singapore. The last time Nepal and Singapore faced each other was in 1989. In 1989, Nepal and Singapore played two matches under the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. In the first match, Singapore defeated Nepal by 7-0 and by 3-0 in the second match.     

Nepal first played against Singapore in the 1982 King's Cup. Nepal was defeated by 2-0. Then in 1986, Nepal held Singapore to a goalless draw in the Panchayat Silver Jubilee Cup held at the Dasharath Stadium.     

Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has congratulated Nepal's national football team for securing a historic victory against Singapore.     

Prime Minister Oli today posted a group photo of the national football team in his social media account, congratulating Nepal for its victory against Singapore. "Congratulations Nepalis!! Nepal has achieved a historic victory against Singapore", he wrote.(RSS)
