Data collection of damages caused by storm begins

By Ram Mani Dahal,Makwanpur, Mar. 17: Thaha Municipality in Makwanpur district has started collecting data on the damage caused by the storm accompanied by hailstones of Thursday night.

The storm caused significant damage to houses, animal sheds, and vegetable tunnel across several wards.

According to Thaha Municipality spokesperson Hirendra Kumar Rayamajhi, the storm caused massive damage in multiple wards and the municipality has begun gathering details of the loss. 

He said that relief and rescue efforts have started and the Thaha Municipality Disaster Management Committee has decided to provide up to Rs. 30,000 per affected family based on the extent of damage.

Initial assessments indicate that 86 houses and sheds were damaged. Rayamajhi reported that Ward No. 3 recorded 51 damaged homes and sheds, Ward No. 4 reported damage in 25 houses and Ward No. 5 reported damage in 10 houses.

On Saturday, the Nepal Red Cross Society's Makwanpur branch distributed tarpaulins in the affected areas. Before this, Daman Red Cross President Man Shyam Basnet said that 60 tarpaulins were provided as immediate relief through coordination between the Daman Red Cross, District Red Cross and the respective ward offices.

Due to the storm, several areas in Thaha Municipality, including Ghartikhola, Dandagaun and Dharapani, faced severe damage, with roofs of several houses blown away, leaving residents distressed.

The Thaha Municipality Agriculture Section reported that the storm, combined with hail, caused significant damage to crops grown in tunnel farms, resulting in losses worth millions of rupees. 

The municipality said that Ward Nos. 7, 8, 3, 4, 5 and 6 suffered a huge agricultural loss and technicians from the Agriculture Section are currently assessing the incurred loss.
