By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged private schools to invest with confidence, stating that the constitution guarantees property rights.
Inaugurating the 16th national general convention of the Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (PABSON) on Monday, Prime Minister Oli also expressed his surprise at the proposal to bring private schools under Guthi within five years.
He clarified that the government would take responsibility for providing free education to children that cannot afford to educate, with support from the private sector.
“Invest in the education sector. Exercise your property rights as per the law. This is not an industry. Do not aim for excessive profit,” Prime Minister Oli said.
“Invest and provide quality education in the country. Produce skilled and competent citizens. The law does not prohibit making a profit after investment. Provide service, but you don’t have to become ascetics either,” he added.
He also emphasised teaching
students about patriotism, independence, and the nation’s history of bravery, urging them to rely on their
own efforts rather than external donations.
During the event, Prime Minister Oli presented the PABSON Gaurav and PABSON Ratna awards to former presidents Bhoj Bahadur Shah, Lakshya Bahadur KC, Dr. Bijay Sambahamphe, and others.
NGOs urged to be self-reliant
Meanwhile, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to focus on self-reliance rather than depending on foreign grants.
Inaugurating the 11th general assembly and civic conference of the NGO Federation of Nepal on Monday, Prime Minister Oli said that although globalisation has made it difficult to work in isolation, Nepal’s fertile land should be utilised to enhance production and productivity.
He emphasised that social organisations should highlight success, hope, and achievements rather than just failures.
He also assured that no obstacles would be created in developmental efforts.
Referring to a royalist event on Sunday, he remarked, “We are not in such a fragile state that we need to display pictures of foreign figures in a rally. We have no time for undemocratic, anti-system, or unconstitutional activities.”
“We are committed to taking a step forward every day on the path to a prosperous Nepal,” he added.
