Nepal ahead of other countries in terms of women rights-President Deuba

Patan (Lalitpur), March 8: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has claimed that Nepal is ahead of other countries in terms of women's rights.     

He said this in his address to a discussion 'Call of Nepali Women: Campaign for Equality and Empowerment' organized by the NC's Central Women Department at the party's central office at Sanepa today on the occasion of the 115th International Women's Day.     

President Deuba said Nepal was ahead of other countries of the world in terms of women's empowerment through the exercise of rights and responsibilities.     

"Not only in every local government, but in every apparatuses of the State, there are woman in lead as the chiefs and deputy chiefs. There is a situation where women are leading the country and no other country has given as much rights as Nepal has," Deuba said.     

NC's associate general secretary Mahalakshmi Upadhyay 'Dina' stressed the need to ensure decisive participation of women at every level of the State and the party by implementing the laws made so far.     

NC central member and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Arju Rana Deuba, said that much have been done in Nepal on the issue of rights, equality and empowerment, yet it is not enough.     

"Although some rights of women have been established, they have not yet been utilized. We should also pay attention to whether we have been able to make ourselves capable or not," she noted".(RSS)
