blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 8: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended his best wishes on the occasion of the 115th International Women’s Day (IWD) on Saturday.

Issuing a message, President Paudel said, “I extend my best wishes for peace, prosperity and happiness to all Nepali sisters, women's rights activists and everyone engaged in the protection and promotion of women’s rights, both in Nepal and abroad.”

The President said, “The principle of proportional and inclusive representation adopted by the Constitution has been a milestone in ensuring meaningful participation and leadership of women in political, social, economic, cultural and educational sectors. I firmly believe that achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment requires equal access to education, healthcare, employment, policymaking and decision-making processes, ensuring women's participation in all state mechanisms.”

However, harmful traditional practices have led to an increase in physical and mental violence against adolescent girls and young women, read the message.  “To eliminate such practices, it is crucial to implement more effective and creative programmes.

Women, who make up half of the population, play a key role in the progress of families, society and the nation. Therefore, special attention must be given to their empowerment,” said President Paudel.

Likewise, in his message, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav said ‘Women's empowerment is a holistic and multidimensional approach. Through this, women can develop awareness, competence and the ability to make independent decisions. It also enables them to gain economic self-reliance, political participation and access to key factors necessary for social development.”

Vice President Yadav said, “A nation's comprehensive and harmonious development is possible only when women attain their rightful place in society, receive due respect and have opportunities based on their qualifications and abilities. Achieving this status for women requires equal contributions and efforts from everyone.”
