Kathmandu, March 7: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has vowed protection of press freedom.
During the third annual general meeting of the Economic Media Association Nepal (EMAN) here Friday, Speaker Ghimire viewed there would not be any restriction on press freedom.
"Vibrant press, transparency and accountability are pillars of a democracy. So, no law will weaken free press. I'm fully committed to press freedom," Speaker Ghimire reminded.
He also said he was aware of the concern showed by media persons in the related bill under consideration in parliament. According to him, robust coordination among the concerned agencies was imperative to find new opportunities and leverage economic policies.
The general assembly also elected a new working committee under the chairmanship of Royal Acharya. Vice chair of the committee is Dilli Prasad Karki, while general secretary Rameshwor Karki, deputy general secretary Tanka Karki, secretary Prakash Aryal, and treasurer Amir Lama. Similarly, Apsara Gautam, Utsav Dhakal, DR Acharya, Manoj Thapa and Ghita Bhusal are members.
EMAN Special Honour was conferred on Chief Editor of the New Business Age magazine, Madan Lamsal.(RSS)
