By Radha Krishna Dumre,Syangja, Mar. 3: Singer Durgesh Thapa’s performance at the Syangja Festival, where he arrived by helicopter, completely transformed the atmosphere of the event.
After performing at a festival in Arghakhanchi, Thapa arrived in Syangja, capturing the attention of both young and elderly audience alike.
Due to the overwhelming crowd of audience and fans, it took almost 30 minutes to escort Thapa from the helipad to the stage.
As soon as he reached the stage, he began singing ‘Dushman Hereko Herai’, which instantly changed the mood of the festival.
The amusement park area, including the swings that were previously packed, suddenly became deserted as all eyes turned toward the stage.
According to Mahadev Shrestha, president of the Syangja District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which organised the event, since Thapa’s arrival was widely publicised in advance, the seventh Syangja Festival saw a massive turnout.
He added that thousands of audience attended the festival on Saturday alone.
As Thapa's schedule was tight until the end of the festival, he was brought in by helicopter.
The demand for Thapa at various fairs and festivals has been increasing following the success of his recent song, said Ghanashyam Rijal, the General Secretary of Syangja Srashta Sadan.
The festival, which began on February 18, concluded on Sunday. It was organised under the theme ‘The Foundation of Syangja Festival: Agriculture and Tourism as the Basis of Economic Prosperity.’
According to Robin KC, the General Secretary of the Syangja District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the festival featured an agricultural exhibition, local arts and culture, an educational exhibition, a national folk duet programme, a tourism and religious photo exhibition, a Panche Baja competition, a Ratyouli competition, a Bhajan competition, solo dance performances by mothers, and a school-level dance competition.
Since its inauguration, the festival has been attended by ministers, the chief secretary, former ministers, members of parliament, leaders and representatives of all political parties in the district, as well as party workers. Each day during the festival, performances by renowned artists were featured.
