Dharahara extends operational time by an hour, Rs 15 million collected within three months

Kathmandu, Feb.11: The operational time of Dharahara has been extended by an hour with the onset of the summer season. 

Visitors can access the tower for one more hour, as the operating hours have been set between 10 am and 4: 15 pm.

Earlier, the operational time was set between 10 AM to 3: 15 PM till January 27, which has been extended by one more hour, from 10 am and 4: 15 pm. The ticket can be bought till 4: 15 PM and can board on tour till 5 PM. 

Acting Project Director for Dharahara operation Prakash Aryal said that now the time has been extended and tickets can be bought till 4: 15 PM and can board on tower till 5 PM. 

According to him, Rs 15 million in revenue has been collected within three months of operation. 

Director Aryal said that the money was collected through the sale of tickets from the historic Dharahara, which was opened to the general public from 24 November to 27 January, till this Thursday. 

He said that the number of citizens visiting the tower daily is around 1,200 people, except for Wednesday as the tower remains closed on Wednesday. 

Lately, even international tourists have visited the tower. The rate to climb the tower has been fixed Rs 200 per person. 

A 50 per cent discount has been arranged for students, senior citizens, children, and differently abled people. 

Aryal said that tourists coming from SAARC countries will be charged Rs 500 per person and those coming from non-SAARC countries will be charged Rs 1,000 per person.

According to him, the Dharahara has been put into operation by charging a fee according to the Special Structure Operation and Management Development Committee Order, 2081.

The cabinet meeting on November 21 decided to open the Dharahara and approve the fee. 

There is a parking facility on the premises. Parking at that location is fixed at Rs 20 per hour for four-wheelers and Rs 10 for two-wheelers. 

Rs 50 has been fixed for entry into the Dharahara Tower.
