By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 4: Almost 80,000 foreign tourists have entered Nepal in the month of January, first month of 2025.
According to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), a total of 79,991 tourists entered Nepal in the month of January, this year.
This is only 1 per cent higher than the tourist arrival during the same month of last year 2024.
A total of 79,100 tourists arrived in Nepal in the month of January 2024. Tourist arrival was only 98 per cent in the month of January compared to 2019.
A total of 81,273 tourists visited Nepal in the month of January in 2019.
Nepal's tourism sector witnessed a remarkable resurgence in international visitor arrivals in 2024. According to NTB, Nepal welcomed over 1.147 million tourists in 2024, marking a significant recovery and growth of nearly 13.1 per cent compared to the previous year.
A total of 1,014,882 foreign tourists visited Nepal in 2023.
The number of tourists from India in the first month of this year has decreased by 15.1 per cent compared to same period last year.
A total of 20,485 tourists have come from India during the review month. A total of 24,139 tourists had visited Nepal in the month of January 2024.
There has been an improvement in the number of tourists coming from China, another neighbouring country of Nepal.
In the first month of this year, 8,191 tourists from China visited Nepal. This is 12.7 per cent more than the same period last year. In the same period last year, 7,267 Chinese tourists visited Nepal.
According to NTB, 8,063 tourists from United States of America, 5,406 people from Bangladesh, 4,301 people from Australia and 3,756 people from South Korea visited the country in January.
A total of 3,521 tourists arrived from United Kingdom, 3,252 tourists from Thailand, 2,719 tourists from Bhutan and 1,570 people from Japan.
The share of India in the total tourist arrival in the month of January is 25.6 per cent while the share of China 10.2 per cent, U.S.A. 10.1 per cent, Bangladesh 6.8 per cent, Australia 5.2 per cent, South Korea 4.7 per cent and U.K. 4.4 per cent.
Of the total tourist arrival, share of tourists from Asia (SAARC) stood at 37 per cent, Asia (others) at 25.5 per cent, Europe at 13 per cent, Americas at 12 per cent, Oceania at 5.7 per cent, Middle East 0.9 per cent Africa 0.4 per cent and others at 5.7 per cent in the review month.
