By TRN Online, Kathmandu, June 9: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has expanded his Cabinet by inducting a new Minister and re-inducting the one who had earlier resigned on moral ground.
As the new Minister in
the Cabinet, Mahabir Pun has been sworn in as the Minister for Science,
Technology and Innovation while Sudhan Gurung has been sworn in as the Home
Minister. Gurung served as the Home Minister earlier for about a month but
later resigned on 22 April due to controversy about his investment in the capital
market.
President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of
office and secrecy to both the newly appointed Ministers amid a special
ceremony at the Office of the President today.
Gurung is a member of the House of Representatives
from Gorkha-1 representing the ruling RSP while Pun is also a member of the HoR
from Myagdi. Pun got elected in HoR poll held on 5 March as an independent
candidate who was backed by the RSP.
PM Shah has formed his Cabinet on 27 March.
Pun was Education Minister in the Sushila Karki led
government that was formed after the Gen Z movement in September last year.
The government had formed a committee to investigate
into Gurung on 11 May and the report of the panel was accepted by a meeting of
the Council of Ministers today itself.
