Kathmandu, Feb. 3: Coach Monty Desai expressed his gratitude on social media Sunday, marking the end of his tenure with the Nepali national cricket team, as the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) chose not to renew his contract.

The association issued a press release on Saturday announcing that it would not renew the contract with Monty. The CAN also took to social media to thank Monty for his contributions to Nepali cricket.

"Dear Nepal, This is NOT a goodbye, but a heartfelt THANK YOU!, Monty stated in his social media post.

"On January 10, 2023, I embraced the opportunity with the Cricket Association of Nepal, stepping into the unknown with excitement and purpose, hoping to build a story that would leave a lasting impact on Nepal cricket," he added.

"These two years have been unforgettable, filled with cherished moments and shared milestones. The Asia Cup qualification at TU Ground, where fans climbed trees and stood with umbrellas, and the World Cup qualification in Mulpani, where the crowd was electric, defined Nepal’s passion and resilience."

Reflecting on the highs and lows of his journey with the Nepali team, he took the opportunity to express his gratitude to all cricket stakeholders.

"This journey had its highs and lows, and I’m grateful to have played a small role alongside CAN Management, selectors, players, coaches, officials, scorers, groundsmen, cameramen, commentators, and my captain, Rohit Paudel. Every individual contributed in their own way, and I deeply value the camaraderie we built."

He said to the players, "You carry the dreams of millions. Stay grounded, embrace the One Ball Battle mindset, and keep pushing boundaries. The Happy Dressing Room philosophy built on relationships, openness, oneness, and accountability will always be your strength."

To the support staff, he said their relentless efforts behind the scenes have been invaluable. "My demands were only to push us towards excellence. Thank you for standing by my side."

His message to the fans was, "Your unwavering support has been our biggest strength. Keep believing in this team!"

He thanked the CAN management for the opportunity and said, "Thank you for the opportunity to lead. The foundation is set! Stay united and keep making Nepal proud."

In his special message to the Nepali people, Monty stated that the country has become his second home. "Nepal has been my home away from home. Cricket here is more than a sport; it is an emotion that unites this nation!"

He concluded his statement by expressing, "Jay Nepal!"
