Kathmandu, Jan 30: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said Nepal will unlock the potential of information technology (IT) to spur economic development.
Addressing the 8th Nepal Chamber Expo, 2025 organized by the Nepal Chamber of Commerce at Bhrikutimandap today, Minister Gurung informed that the ministry was devoted to creating infrastructures and policy frameworks to bolster the IT sector. The economy which was facing a slowdown in the beginning has witnessed reform after the current government's intervention, he claimed.
"We're devoted to both in policy and infrastructure fronts," Minister Gurung reminded, sharing that the infrastructures like IT parks would be expanded within this fiscal year.
According to him, the traders and industrialists were happy with the ordinances the government brought recently. It would create a positive impact on the national economy, he added.
The Minister also informed that the draft of artificial intelligence (AI) policy was being discussed at the ministry. The government has a long-term goal of ensuring a 5 per cent contribution from the IT sector to the national economy by promoting a digital Nepal campaign. The ministry has paid heed to generating employment through IT development, he added. (RSS)
