Kathmandu, Jan.30: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Thursday extended best wishes on Sonam Lhosar, the main festival and beginning of the New Year of the Tamang community.
Taking to social media Facebook, PM Oli wished those who celebrate Sonam Lhosar by posting a picture of Tamang women dressed in their traditional attire and holding Damphu in their hands. A damphu, or damfoo, is a percussion instrument similar to a large tambourine. The Tamang people use this instrument to play the melodious Tamang Selo, which is considered an important genre of Nepali folk music.
The PM said, "Today marks the new year of the Tamang community. I recall beautiful images of different colors, red, white, yellow, blue, and green flags fluttering on the roofs of the houses and on mane made on top of the hills whenever the festival nears. The traditional song (Tamang selo) is sung by playing Damfu (traditional music instrument), a Nepal folk music. "
PM Oli extended greetings to all brothers and sisters and ended the wish message using the traditional term of Tamang, Lhasso, fyafulla (Namaste)!
