By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 29: Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire has urged all political parties to actively engage in the proceedings of the upcoming winter session, scheduled to begin on January 31.
Talking to journalists of The Rising Nepal and its sister publication Gorkhapatra at his office in Singha Durbar on Tuesday, he said that the upcoming session of the House of Representatives aims to inspire a renewed sense of motivation among the political parties, their leaders, and Members of Parliament (MPs), ultimately ensuring that the session is result-oriented and effective.
He stressed the importance of political parties' cooperation to facilitate the smooth functioning of the winter session. “All political parties must align with one another to enhance the dignity of the Parliament and make parliamentary procedures more effective,” he said.
The Speaker informed that six key ordinances would be presented during the first meeting of the session. They include the 'Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Cooperatives, 2024', the 'Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Promotion of Good Governance and Public Service Delivery, 2024', the 'Financial Procedures and Fiscal Responsibility (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2024', the 'Privatisation (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2024', the 'Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Economic and Business Environment Improvement and Investment Promotion, 2024', and the 'Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Land, 2024'.
He also reiterated his commitment to ensuring the smooth operation of parliamentary committees. He assured that committee sessions would be organised in consultation with relevant ministers to ensure their attendance and participation.
Speaker Ghimire said that critical bills and acts would be discussed in the House. “We must remember that Parliament serves as a forum where representatives deliberate on the issues faced by the public. For example, MPs raised concerns regarding loan shark victims, which led to the formation of a committee to address the matter,” he said.
Speaker Ghimire expressed confidence that the upcoming winter session would be more productive than previous ones. "This session will see the presentation and passage of significant bills, including the federal civil servant bill, school education bill, and amendments to armed-police and police act, among others," he said.
