BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Jan. 21: The Health Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City is collecting data on medications taken by senior citizens aged 70 and above for chronic illnesses.  This initiative aims to make the availability of medicines more accessible and convenient for them.

According to the metropolitan city, data collection began on January 6. Deepak KC, head of the Health Department, said that once the details are collected, it will be easier to plan additional health promotion programmes for the targeted group.

The department has gathered information on 23,770 senior citizens aged 70 and above, whose details were updated in the municipal registration branch as of July 16, 2024.

Medical Officer Dr. Diwash Neupane said that messages have been sent to each senior citizen’s mobile phone, requesting information through Google Forms through their families or helpers. So far, details of 1,496 individuals have been collected. Among them, many are taking medication for diabetes and high blood pressure.

If a senior citizen is a permanent resident of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and lives within the metropolis, their details can be submitted by a family member or helper by clicking the link provided by the metropolitan city.
