By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 11: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the teachings of Prithivi Narayan Shah are equally relevant and popular even today.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 303rd birth anniversary of King Prithivi Narayan Shah and the National Unity Day, President Paudel said that while remembering Prithvi Narayan Shah we should also recall his ‘Divyopadesh’ (divine teachings).
“These teachings still guide economic development, patriotism and building diplomatic relations with neighbouring countries,” he said.
President Paudel acknowledged Prithvi Narayan Shah’s pivotal role in uniting small, scattered states to establish modern Nepal.
He highlighted the continuity of this campaign by Nepal's brave ancestors throughout history, which enabled Nepalis today to take pride in a sovereign and independent nation.
Building on this foundation, Nepal has been declared an independent, indivisible, sovereign, secular, inclusive, democratic, socialism-oriented federal democratic republic.
President Paudel emphasised that the contributions of many predecessors in transforming Nepal from small, scattered states into its current form must never be forgotten.
President Paudel expressed his hope that the occasion of National Unity Day would inspire all citizens to uphold the nation’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity while striving for the people's happiness and prosperity.
“May this day strengthen our commitment to national unity and inspire progress towards a prosperous Nepal,” he added. He also extended a heartfelt tribute to the unifier of Nepal. Meanwhile, Vice-President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav also extended his warm wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity and good health to all Nepalis living at home and abroad on the occasion.
The Vice President emphasised that the day serves as a platform to strengthen the spirit of unity in Nepal’s rich cultural diversity and to remember those who contributed to the country's unification.
In his message, the Vice President highlighted the importance of National Unity Day in fostering Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
He urged citizens to draw inspiration from this occasion to uphold the ideals of self-governance and national pride. The Vice President called on the youth to cultivate a spirit of dedication and service towards the nation, underscoring the day as an opportunity to honour Nepal’s history, culture and heritage.
He also stressed the importance of embracing Nepal’s multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-religious identity to promote social harmony, equality and mutual respect.
He further stated that by discarding conflicts and divisions, the nation could achieve faster economic and social development.
He urged collective efforts to combat poverty and unemployment and ensure balanced development across all regions.
He said the National Unity Day serves as a reminder of the shared identity of being Nepali, fostering a united effort for the country’s progress and prosperity.
