By Ramesh BK,Gulmi, May 6: The District Administration Office in Gulmi has imposed a ban on the sale and distribution of alcohol after 9:00pm.

The decision follows an analysis of criminal incidents in the district over the past few years, which found that most cases were linked to alcohol consumption. In response, authorities have introduced a complete restriction on the sale, distribution and consumption of alcoholic beverages after the fixed time.

A meeting of the District Security Committee held on Monday decided to enforce the ban across the district, citing the need to maintain law and order and control crime. Chief District Officer Badri Nath Gaire said that the majority of criminal activities recorded in recent years were associated with alcohol use.

According to him, the decision was also taken in response to requests from local bodies and other stakeholders seeking stricter control over alcohol.

“This step has been taken to curb the rising crime in society caused by alcohol and to maintain peace and order,” Gaire said. “Anyone violating the rule will face action in accordance with the law.”

Authorities have also urged local businesses not to import or sell low-quality alcohol. It has been made clear that both the sale and consumption of alcohol after the stipulated time will be subject to legal action under prevailing laws.
