Traffic office hands over 33 stolen two- wheelers to owners

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 10: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Ramshahpath, has handed over 33 stolen motorcycles, which were stolen on different dates, to their owners. 

Organising a function at the Traffic Police Office on Thursday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Binod Ghimire, the head of the Office, handed over the two-wheelers to the respective owners after verifying their documents.

Among them, eight were scooters. 

Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson for the Traffic Office, Sanjaya Bahadur Raut said that based on the applications received at the Traffic Police Office, some vehicles were found with original number plates while others had fake number plates. 

According to him, the vehicles were recovered from various locations, including Gatthaghar, Kandaghari, Nepaltar, Kalimati, Padmodya Mode, Lainchaur, Gaushala, Baneshwar, Dharmasthali, New Bus Park and Bouddha. 

SP Raut said that the Traffic Police Office had so far handed over 273 lost and found vehicles to the owners from mid-July, 2024, to the first week of January 2025.

During the period, the traffic police arrested 40 motorcycle thieves and handed them to various police offices for legal action.

The vehicle owners, after receiving their vehicles, expressed happiness and collectively thanked the traffic police.

Likewise, during the fiscal year 2023/24, 499 two-wheelers were recovered and handed over to the owners while in 2024/25, 417 vehicles were found and given to the respective owners. 

Speaking at the function, SSP Ghimire suggested that vehicle riders should not park and leave their vehicles in unsafe areas with poor human mobility and without wheel locks, chain locks, handle locks, disc locks, or install security alarms. 

The traffic police have suggested calling or informing the traffic police on their hotline number 103, or Nepal Police hotline number 100, or filing vehicle missing complaints at the nearest police station immediately after anyone lost his vehicle.
