by Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, Jan. 4: Upendra Yadav, Chairman of the Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal, and former Deputy Prime Minister, has warned that increasing political instability could threaten the hard-earned achievements gained through long struggles and sacrifices.
Speaking at a press meet organised by the Awadhi Journalists Association on Thursday in Nepalgunj, Yadav emphasised that while Nepal now has a constitution, the institutionalisation of key accomplishments remains incomplete.
He said, "If the achievements like republicanism and federalism are not institutionalised, they will be lost, just as the changes of 1951 were reversed in 1960."
Yadav pointed out that frequent changes in government and ongoing political instability have created mistrust, obstructing sustainable progress.
He also alleged that the coalition government of two major parties was pushing the country toward a two-party system, describing it as an unusual development.
Yadav warned that any attempt to amend the constitution in ways that undermine inclusiveness and representation would provoke strong resistance and lead to mass movements.
Responding to journalists, he said, "The government leaders are using various temptations for their selfish power motives, marginalising others. Such actions directly attack the system."
He added that granting authority to employees for management and enabling provinces to handle financial and planning responsibilities are key outcomes of federalism.
The interaction programme was chaired by the Central Chairman of the Awadhi Journalists Association, Rakesh Mishra.
