Eight settlements of Tanjakot in Humla at high risk of landslide

By Rajan Rawat, Humla, Jan.2: Eight settlements of Tanjakot Rural Municipality of Humla district from wards 1 to 5 in the southern part of the district are at high risk of landslides.

The meeting of District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) concluded that eight different settlements of Tanjakot are at high risk because they are located on escarpment land.

Chief District Officer of Bajhang District Narayan Pandeya said that Kolapelna of Tanjakot Rural Municipality-1, Dalitbada-2, Bhalbada and Rokayabada of ward-3, Okhadena of 4, Lotpata and Dalitbada of ward 5are at high risk of landslides.

The Tanjakot Rural Municipality had corresponded to the district administration office on December 18 to relocate people of the eight settlements to safe places in line with eight settlements at high risk of landslides.

He said that it is necessary to identify safe places and conduct settlement development programs in order to relocate the settlements that are at risk to safe places.

In addition, the meeting decided to request the Disaster and Conflict Management Division of the Home Minister and Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, Karnali Province for on-site study by a team including geologists and other skilled technicians for the settlement relocation.
