Tikapur, Jan 4: In the wake of dropping temperature, the Brahman Samaj, Kailali has distributed warm clothes to 3,000 people from impoverished community in the district.
The initiative was launched since December 16 to help those facing hardship and suffering from bone-chilling cold due to insufficient warm clothes, said Ram Prasad Rimal, Chairperson of Samaj.
According to Rimal, they collected clothes, new and old ones alike, through community donations and distributed to the needy ones. Around 300 beneficiaries visit the distribution centre every day to fetch warm clothes distributed for free.
Each recipient receives at least a pair of clothes. Moreover, they get to select the clothes voluntarily which further adds to their cheer, said Rimal, adding that the drive had help them fend off the biting cold this winter.
Surendra Chaudhary, 78, is one among the beneficiaries, was happy to receive two set of jackets without having to stand in the long line given his old age.
"Its difficult for me to stand in line for long. Hence I got two jackets after seeking assistance from the Samaj. I am grateful for the jackets which will help protect me from the cold," gushed elderly Chaudhary.
Phulmati Chaudhary, another beneficiary, appreciated that distributing warm clothes in such a hostile winter was a noble cause. "It's a great support to people like us who can not afford new clothes too often," she chimed in.
Prerana Chaudhary and Shanti Tharu shared similar sentiments like Phulmati. They lauded the distribution drive which, they viewed, had provided much-needed relief for those unable to buy warm clothes.
Ram Bhul got clothes for him and another for his one-year-old child after standing in a line for an hour. "I had come hoping to find clothes for myself. I was able to obtain another for my child as well," Bhul mentioned gleefully.(RSS)
