By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 29: Popular Nepali musical band, Kandara, is set to release a new song titled ‘Hunchha: The Song of Hope’ in the New Year 2025.
The lyrics and music for this song have been composed by the band’s drummer, Sunil Thapa. It is intended to deliver a message of hope and inspiration, emphasising the need for individual improvement in thoughts, behaviour and actions to bring positive change to the nation.
Earlier, even Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli extended his best wishes for the song’s success with his signature.
Kandara’s songs, such as ‘Lekaki Hey Maya, ‘Bidesiera Gaiin Uni’, ‘Chanchale Kanchhiko’, ‘Bhedi Gothaima’, ‘Hong Kong Pokhara’, ‘Tagaroma Rumal’, and ‘Bichara Ma’, have become iconic in Nepali music, blending a unique aroma of folk-pop melodies.
The current lineup of Kandara includes Bivek Shrestha on vocals, Sunil Thapa on drums, Dev Lama on lead guitar, Pankaj Jha on bass guitar, Avinash Gayak on Madal and Umesh Thapa on keyboards. Notably, Sunil Thapa, on drums, has been with the band since its inception.
Recently, Kandara successfully completed musical performances across the Gandaki, Koshi, and Bagmati Provinces as part of its Nepal tour.
Starting January 2025, the band will embark on a world tour. The band will perform in Dubai, and later in March-April, they will tour Australia and New Zealand. Likewise, they will perform in the USA in May, Canada in June and in July-August, the band will perform across various European countries. The tour will conclude with performances in Japan during August-September, with additional shows planned in Qatar and Singapore.
With a musical journey spanning 32 years, Kandara has continued to deliver a fusion of folk-pop melodies and modern music to Nepali youth. Lead vocalist Bivek Shrestha, who had been abroad for 14 years, has returned and is driving the band forward with renewed energy.
