Baku, (Azerbaijan), Nov 13: President Ramchandra Paudel hosted a high-level session themed 'Addressing Climate Induced Loss and Damage in Mountainous Regions' has started alongside the COP29.
The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan with the participation of Presidents or Vice-Presidents of 40 countries and Prime Ministers of 35 countries.
Nepal is hosting this special session to draw the attention of the global community towards the issues such as problems and challenges facing the people in the mountainous and hilly regions of Nepal due to climate change as well as other environmental concerns.
Commencing the session, Minister for Forest and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, secretary at the Ministry of Forest and Environment Dr Deepak Kharal, Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Rai and CEO of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Anil Pokharel shed light on the programmes in the high-level session.
Earlier today, another mountainous country Kirgizstan had organized a high-level session on climate change and its impact. During the event, President Paudel called for global integrated efforts to address climate change-induced problems and alleviate poverty.
The Heads of the Government and heads of the States from the UK, France, Bhutan, Kirgizstan and Azerbaijan among others are participating in today's high-level session being hosted by President Paudel.
It may be noted President Paudel arrived in Azerbaijan last Monday leading a high-level delegation to attend the global climate conference-COP29 at the invitation of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev.
