Electricity demand on Laxmi Puja exceeds by 164 MW

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Nov 1: The demand of electricity (peak demand) on Laxmi Puja has been recorded 1602 megawatt (MW) in Tihar 2081 B.S. 

The last year’s Laxmi Puja day electric demand in pick hour had been recorded 1438 MW The record of the pick demand excluded the electricity supplied to industry and factory. 

According to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the production had been sufficient to meet domestic demand as well as export. The produced electricity exceeded by 253 MW after meeting a full domestic consumption was export to India. 

Last year 517 MW exported to India. 

This year’s production reduced due to a few damage in Upper Tamakoshi, Kabali corridor and other few small hydro. 

The total demand of electricity including the export is recorded 1855 MW.

This year's pick demand in Kathmandu recorded 390 MW . Last year recorded 366 MW.

Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Kul Man Ghising said, “ This is historic leap in energy sector as Nepal used to import to meet domestic demand on Laxmi Puja day  and its has been producing sufficient to meet domestic demand and even do export exceeded. We would have exported around 1000 MW this year if the recent flooding had not damaged a few hydro”.  

He said demand has been rising every year.

The country has been free from irk of loadshedding since 2075 B.S.
