Nepal and India decide to control cross border crimes

Mahottari, Oct. 30: The Nepal-India Border District Coordination Committee meeting has concluded with decisions aimed at controlling border-related crimes. 

The meeting that took place in Matihani, Mahottari, was attended by over 30 security officials from Nepal and India.

Chief District Officer of Mahottari, Shivaram Gelal, said that discussions and decisions were made on various issues, including border security, crime control along the border, protection of boundary pillars, human trafficking, control of alcohol and drug 

smuggling, prevention of illegal currency transactions and mutual cooperation and coordination.

He said that agreements were reached on information-sharing mechanisms between the two countries on these issues and emphasised that the meetings should be organised regularly between security agencies of both nations concerning border security issues.

The meeting was attended by the CDO of Rautahat, Hiralal Regmi, CDO of Sarlahi Gopal Kumar Adhikari, DIG Sri Babu Ram of Tirhut Division, Muzaffarpur, SP Manoj Kumar Tiwari of Sitamarhi, DM Richie Pandey, SDM Sanjeev Kumar, along with customs officials and heads of security agencies.

Mahottari District has seen an increase in illegal alcohol trafficking, currency transactions and drug smuggling because of an open border between India and Nepal.
