Nepal wins gold medals in Summer Games Boxing

Kathmandu, Oct 29: Nepali boxers, Swastika Tiruwa and Norbu Thendup Sherpa, have won gold medals in the ISF Gymnasiade Summer boxing today. Both of them defeated Brazilian boxers.     

At the boxing event held at Al-Ahli Club of Manama in Brunei, Swastika outshined Brazilian boxer Oliviara 5-0 in the women's under 54 kg final.     

In the semi-finals, Swastika defeated Brazil's Barros Ferreira Marcelo Di 5-0 to secure a place in the final. This is Swastika's first international gold in three international tournaments. Swastika is the only female boxer from Nepal to participate in boxing.     

In the men's under-80 kg category, Norbu defeated Brazil's Regenda Acules Wallifer 3-2 in the final. In the semi-finals, he defeated Anas Al Jalaki of Bahrain to reach the final.     

It is Norbu's first international medal in his only second international appearance.(RSS)
