Kathmandu, Oct 18: Children throughout the country are being administered Vitamin 'A' and deworming tablets on Friday and Saturday.

Lila Bikram Thapa, Chief of the Nutrition Section, Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services, said that the programme targeted to children less than five years old will run on October 18 and 19.

Stating that the programme will be conducted at 753 local levels, he said the female health volunteers have been mobilised at schools, ward offices and other convenient places for this purpose.

Each year, children aged six months to under five years are administered Vitamin 'A' capsules and de-worming tablets under the National Immunization Programme.

"Immunization as well as nutrition both are inevitable for the holistic development of children. We have the goal of administering Vitamin A capsules to around 2.1 million children aged six months to less than five years, and the de-worming tablets to 1.8 to 1.9 million children aged one year to less than five years," Thapa added.

The Ministry of Health and Population has urged parents to contact the female health volunteers or the nearest health post or ward office to get their children administered Vitamin 'A' and de-worming tablets. (RSS)
