JAAN provides relief materials to victim families of rain-induced disasters

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Oct 7: In response to the recent floods and landslides caused by continuous rainfall, the JICA Alumni Association of Nepal (JAAN), with the support of the Japan Nepal Society, the Institute for Suitable Actions for Prosperity (ISAP), and donation from some of its members, successfully distributed essential relief materials to affected families in Wards 5 and 6 of Godawari Municipality.

Dr. Ram Chandra Bhusal, President of JAAN, expressed that the association made the decision to cancel its annual Dashain gathering, traditionally held for festive greetings, and instead redirected the funds to support the flood and landslide victims, according to the press note issued by the JAAN. 

He emphasized that delivering the relief materials before Dashain allowed JAAN to offer a timely source of comfort and solidarity to the affected families.

During the event, Gajendra Maharjan, Mayor of Godawari Municipality, expressed his sincere gratitude to JAAN for its ongoing commitment to community development and disaster relief efforts within the municipality. He acknowledged JAAN's role in supporting various community initiatives and emphasized the value of such collaborations, read the press note.

Similarly, Milan Silwal, Chairperson of Ward No. 5, admired JAAN’s continuous prioritization in the community of Lele for both disaster relief and community development projects. He highlighted JAAN’s collaboration with the Japan Nepal Society and ISAP in implementing a five-year Agricultural Promotion Project (Agriculture Promotion Project in Nepal) in Lele, facilitating long-term training opportunities for local youth in Japan, and upporting the creation of the Sakura Garden, a symbol of Nepal-Japan friendship, read the JAAN press note.

Bishnuman Maharjan, Chairperson of Ward No. 6, emphasized these sentiments, noting that the relief materials distributed during Dashain provided much-needed comfort to the victims, acting as a source of solace during a difficult time.

JAAN with the support of Japan Nepal Society and ISAP has been actively involved in community development programs of Lele in Lalitpur for many years. In addition to its longstanding efforts in disaster relief, including support during the earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic, this recent initiative underscores its ongoing dedication to the well-being of local communities. The relief distribution program, held shortly before the Dashain festival, provided much-needed support to 94 families. Approximately 4,000 kg of essential food items, including rice, lentils, sugar, and other necessities, were distributed to the victims. This initiative reflects JAAN's commitment to supporting disaster-affected communities and alleviating the hardships faced by vulnerable families during this challenging period, according to JAAN press note.
