Livestock Department suggests to buy green marked goats

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Oct.6: The Young he-goats and castrated goats are being brought from different places such as Salyan, Surkhet, Rukum, Rolpa, Gulmi and Arghakhanchi.

According to the president of the Chaupaya traders association Santosh Bahadur Khatri, it has been difficult to bring young he-goats and castrated goats from Okhaldhung, Khotang, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Udayapur and Kavre because of the road obstruction caused by the disaster. 

Early year, around 45,000 Young he-goats and castrated goats are brought to the Kathmandu Valley. Likewise, mountain goasts from Manang and Mustang.  

Meanwhile, the Department of Livestock Services by employing a team of veterinarian has been monitoring and testing the health of goats being sold bearing in mind about the consumer’s health.

Veterinarian Yogendra Prasad Sharma, who is currently examining the health of Young he-goats and castrated goats, said, “We are currently motininring the health condition of goats. Only, healthy young he-goats and castrated goats are allowed for sell.” 

He said that the department has marked the horns of healthy goats green and those of sick goats are marked red.

The department has suggested to only buy healthy cattle.
