Teams mobilized to distribute assistance to disaster survivors in Kavre

Kavrepalanchok, Oct 5: Various teams have been mobilized to provide assistance to the households that suffered worst in the last week's floods and landslides caused by nonstop rains in the district.     

As per the announcement of federal government, teams have been mobilized at five local levels to provide relief funds to the families of those who lost their lives in the disasters.     

Panauti Municipality, Bethanchok Rural Municipality, Roshi Rural Municipality, Namobuddha Municipality and Mandandeupur Municipality recorded highest number of deaths.     

The team led by Chief District Officer and Coordinator of District Disaster Management Committee Umesh Kumar Dhakal provided monetary assistance to the flood affected families of Banepa and Panauti.     

According to him, the team would provide assistance at survivors' doorsteps.     

Assistant Chief District Officer Subash Poudel informed that each family that lost one of its members would get a monetary relief of Rs 200 thousands allocated by the federal government, while additional Rs 100 thousand would be provided in case of more than one fatalities in the family.     

On Friday, the government had declared various local levels in the district as disaster hit crises zone to prioritize relief distribution and reconstruction works.     

Roshi, Temal, Bethanchok, Chaunrideurali and Mahabharat Rural Municipalities and Panauti, Namobuddha and Mandandeupur Municipalities of the district are included in the list of local levels declared disaster hit crises zones for three months.     

Total 72 people lost their lives in the landslides occurred at13 local levels of the district.     

According to the District Police Office, five people are still missing and 75 people are injured in the district. Among the dead ones, one was a foreign national, while a woman from Ramechhap district.     

Operation of transport services is still awaited on various roads that received damages. The disaster hit areas are also in need of electricity and communications.(RSS)
