Bagmati government to provide Rs. 100,000 to families left homeless

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Hetauda, Oct. 2: The Bagmati Province government has announced that it will provide Rs. 100,000 to families whose homes have been completely destroyed due to landslides and flooding caused by continuous rainfall over last Friday and Saturday.

The all-party meeting held in the Bagmati Provincial Assembly on Monday discussed the loss to life and property from the torrential rains, as well as issues concerning relief, rescue, compensation and resettlement.

The meeting decided to provide relief amount for the construction of temporary housing. 

Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama Tamang said that assistance would be provided to construct temporary housing for those whose homes have been completely destroyed by the disaster and who have no alternative accommodation.

He further said that families of each deceased individual within Bagmati Province would receive Rs. 200,000 along with free medical treatment for the injured.

Additionally, the meeting decided to manage budgets through district offices under the province to address damages to roads, bridges, electricity and drinking water caused by the flooding. They will also collect information on damages to settlements, houses and livestock to provide necessary assistance.

The meeting also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased in various disaster-related incidents across Bagmati Province due to the torrential rains, along with wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Chief Minister Lama said that priority would be given to rescue and relief efforts in the areas affected by the floods and landslides.

Shaligram Jamarkattel, parliamentary party leader of the main opposition party CPN (Maoist Centre), Kundan Raj Kafle, Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Uddav Thapa, parliamentary party leader of the Ratriya Prajatrantra Pary, and Surendra Raj Gosai, parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress, and others were present in the meeting.
