Waling, Koshi into Super League with three departmental clubs

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 27With a win in their respective matches at ANFA Complex in Lalitpur on Thursday, Waling Municipality and Koshi Province sealed their spots in the fourth and fifth positions in the table of ANFA Women’s League 2024. 

Waling and Koshi have now guaranteed their qualification for the Super League as the Top 5 teams alongside first, second and third-positioned APF Club (22 points), Tribhuvan Army Club (19 points) and Nepal Police Club (18 points) respectively.

Waling defeated Chandrapur 2-1 and Koshi defeated Sudurpashchim 4-0 on Wednesday to earn three points each and stay unchallenged in points. Waling and Koshi now have 15 points and 14 points from nine matches each respectively. The teams below Waling and Koshi are Bagmati Youth Club (10 points), Sankata FC (8 points), Chandrapur (8 points), Karnali (4 points) and Sudurpashchim (nil).

Bagmati, Sankata and Karnali have one match in hand and their opponents are APF, Nepal Police and Army respectively. Even if the three bottom teams could register a win against the toughest opponents, they cannot challenge the Top 5 teams on points.

Regarding the matches on Thursday, Waling led by 2-0 within the first half thanks to the goals by Sukriya Miya and Jackline Nassali in the 6th and 36th minutes respectively. Chandrapur’s Sunita Sunar scored in the 50th minute but the team could not score more.

Meanwhile, in the encounter between the easternmost and westernmost provinces, Koshi scored one goal in the first half and the remaining three within the last 45 minutes.

Mamata Raut was the first scorer for Koshi in the 23rd minute. Samiksha Magar’s double in the 51st and 64th minutes took the lead to 3-0 and Khusma Rai scored the final goal of the match in the 84th minute.

The remaining three matches of the first phase of the League will conclude on Saturday with the match between Sankata and Nepal Police. While the ANFA, in the fixture, had stated to use Dasharath Stadium for the final match, it is uncertain. APF vs Bagmati and Army vs Karnali will mark the end of the campaign’s first phase for the four teams on Friday.
