Bees, beehives distributed to Tanahun farmers

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Tanahun, Sep. 25: Tanahu Hydropower Project has distributed bees and beehives to the farmers to promote self-sufficiency through beekeeping.

Bees and beehives were distributed to 16 families residing in the flood-affected areas of Bhimad Municipality-5 after providing a four-day beekeeping training in Paltyang of Rishing Rural Municipality-8.

While handing over the bees and beehives, Kiran Kumar Shrestha, the managing director of Tanahu Hydropower Limited, urged participants to apply the skills and knowledge gained from the training to foster entrepreneurship. He said that various skill-based training programmes would continue in the future to improve the livelihoods of the affected individuals. 

Bharat Kumar Shrestha, the Ward Chairman of Rishing Rural Municipality-8, said that the training would help increase the income of the affected residents. He encouraged the participants to use the skills learned to develop Paltyang as a pocket area for beekeeping.

Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari said that the knowledge and skills gained from the training would support professional beekeeping. He said that various development projects were being implemented in the affected area. 

Participant Geeta Thapa said that the training provided by experienced instructors offered practical knowledge beyond theoretical understanding, boosting her confidence in pursuing professional beekeeping.

According to the project, 14 different training sessions have already been conducted for affected individuals, covering areas such as plumbing, electrical work, sewing, financial literacy, goat farming and vegetable cultivation. In total, 294 individuals, comprising 139 men and 155 women, have received various forms of training.
