IGP Kunwar directs for reliable, effective policing during festival season

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 17: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar has emphasised the need to ensure an effective security arrangement during the upcoming festivals to prevent all sorts of criminal activities. 

IGP Kunwar said that it was crucial to collect and analyse information related to criminal activities and be committed to a reliable security strategy along with effective police deployment.

IGP Kunwar made these remarks during a virtual meeting on Monday, where he addressed the heads and representatives of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office units, Provincial Police Offices, Nepal Police Highway Security and Traffic Management Offices, Provincial Police Training Centres, Nepal Police Special Security Units, Provincial Police Units, District Police Offices, and District Police Headquarters. 

The meeting was organised by the Nepal Police Headquarters to discuss contemporary issues, among other topics, according to Deputy Inspector General and Spokesperson for the Police Headquarters Dan Bahadur Karki. 

He stressed the need to develop necessary security plans, prepare personnel and ensure the availability of resources and equipment in their respective areas of responsibility. 

The IGP also highlighted the importance of coordination and cooperation with other security agencies for proper execution.

IGP Kunwar instructed that traffic management and accident prevention measures should be enforced to avoid tragic road accidents during the festive season.

He directed the authorities to collaborate with all stakeholders and develop a festival-targeted traffic management and accident prevention action plan, ensuring its implementation.

IGP Kunwar, further, said that any connection with smugglers would be unacceptable and unforgivable. 

He underscored that the police's role in controlling theft and regulating illegal imports and exports must be effective. He urged for more proactive efforts in preventing revenue leakage through border areas.

Additionally, IGP Kunwar emphasised the need to prioritise addressing the complaints received from the marginalised, minority, and underprivileged groups. 

He also stated that police personnel should maintain discipline, politeness, and civility in their conduct, speech, and behaviour while providing services.

The programme also saw directives from Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Tek Bahadur Tamang, Chief of the Crime Investigation Department, and AIG Ramdutta Joshi, Head of the Operations Department, on contemporary issues.
