Banke, Sept. 8: As the cases of road accidents increased sharply due to the rising number of unattended animals, the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City has started working on the management of such cattle.

The city has built a shelter for animals, locally known as Kanji house, at Birta area in Nepalgunj by investing Rs 3.5 million.

Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City Prashant Bista said that a total of 126 stray cattle including cows, oxen and horses have been housed in the Kanji house.

"We have managed those stray animals while ensuring animal rights. The municipality itself has been managing grain for the stray cattle," Bista shared.

He further said that four personnel have been deployed for taking care of the stray cattle and take such animals under control.

Likewise, the city is preparing to construct one more Kanji house in Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality with support from the province and federal governments to control and manage unattended animals.(RSS)
