By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept.7: D.R. Sujan, a renowned name in the Nepali music scene, is now making his mark on the silver screen.  Active in Nepali music for a long time, Sujan has contributed as a singer, lyricist, composer, actor and director.

"Nepali Hamro Jaat," "Satyanaran," "Fuli Nakaima," "Udeko Chari," "Bauama 3 Sajay," "Pradesi Kailo," and "Topi Unaiko," are his popular Nepali songs. His Hindi song "Ma" also became a hit. Over the years, he worked on nearly five hundred songs.

Born as the youngest son of Bed Prakash Regmi and Ganga Devi Regmi in Chilaunebas, Ward No. 2 of Aandhikhola Municipality in Syangja district, Sujan was attracted to music and film from a young age.

He said he used to dream of becoming a singer and hero when he was a schoolboy.

Sujan said, "One must believe in both luck and hard work. Without effort, even if luck is present, it can be lost."

This belief has driven Sujan to achieve success in the music world. A versatile talent, Sujan has received 10 awards across various fields, including singing and directing, and has been honoured by his municipality. Additionally, through his company Dhun Nepal, he has organised the DN Extraordinary International Awards 2024 in Malaysia, recognising and honouring many artists. Sujan has also performed in the UAE, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. He normally prefers to work on local stories.

Sujan has also demonstrated considerable skill in storytelling and has made a significant impact in music video direction. Elected as the first vice president of the Nepal Music Video Directors Society’s second committee, Sujan is now venturing into film. He will play the lead role and direct the Nepali feature film "Bhadre G" under his banner, D.R Sujan Films.

Having lost his father at a young age, Sujan's childhood was very challenging. After completing his education up to grade 10 at a government school in his village, he moved to Kathmandu for higher education.

Despite managing to pass grade 12 while working and supporting his family, he faced difficulties.

Now, after nearly eleven years, he is studying music in his third year at Ratna Rajya Lakshmi Campus under Tribhuvan University. As he enters the film industry, Sujan remains hopeful about achieving the same success in movies as he has in music, stating, "One should never stop working hard; success will come on its own."
