NEPSE witnesses plunge of 53.63 points, daily turnover shrinks to Rs. 10.51 bn

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Sept. 2: Share market has witnessed significant fall on Sunday, the first trading day of the week. The benchmark of the stock market, NEPSE, has recorded a double-digit fall of 53.63 points on Sunday

With significant fall in share market, the index has dropped to 2,695.93 points. The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies decreased by 8.91 points to close at 480.88 points. 

With the significant fall in NEPSE, the transaction amount has also decreased. A total of 26,246,435 shares worth Rs. 10.51 billion of 337 companies were sold in 130,632 transactions today.

On August 15, share turnover in terms of value set a new record of Rs. 29.30 billion. The index had crossed 3,000 points on August 15, 2024. The sub-indices of all groups, except mutual fund, decreased in today’s transaction.

Sub-index of the hotels and tourism group saw the highest fall of 213.34 points followed by the life insurance and non-life insurance group whose indices decreased by 195.82 points and 162.51 points respectively.

Similarly, sub-index of manufacturing and processing group dropped by 130.80 points, finance by 123.30 points, development bank by 100.98 points, microfinance by 96.17 points and hydropower by 82.32 points. 

The sub-index of banking decreased by 36.51 points, others by 22.05 points, trading by 7.22 points and investment by 1.48 points. However, the sub-index of mutual fund group increased by 0.17 points.

When the share price of 209 companies decreased, 31 companies increased in today’s transaction.

Share prices of People’s Hydropower Company and Mai Khola Hydropower have decreased by 10 per cent each while share price of Three Star Hydropower has decreased by 9.99 per cent and Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 9.91 per cent.

However, share price of Super Mai Hydropower has increased by 10 per cent.

Similarly, share price of Himalayan Power Partner increased by 9.87 per cent, Kutheli Bukhari Small Hydropower by 8.37 per cent and Sanima Large Cap Fund by 8.44 per cent.
