President's initiation to expand GP Koirala Respiratory Center to 1,000 bed facility

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Aug.17: The government of India has shown interest in constructing the GP Koirala National Respiratory Center in Shuklagandaki Municipality, Tanahun, as a medical science teaching institute according to the agreement reached between the Prime Ministers of two countries at a special request and initiative of President Ramchandra Paudel.

It is reported that the Indian side has expressed a commitment to upgrade the hospital to a 1,000-bed capacity after President Paudel requested that a DPR of 300 beds which the Indian government is currently preparing for treatment services is not enough. 

The press Advisor of the President, Kiran Pokharel, said that in a meeting with President Paudel, the ambassador of India to Nepal, Shri Naveen Srivastava, expressed this commitment. 

The centre was established in memory of the former Prime Minister and leader of the Nepali Congress late Girija Prasad Koirala. The goal of developing the centre as a unique hospital and medical teaching institute in the country has been moved forward as well.
