Hearing on writ against power trade deal with India underway

blog

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Aug 8: The hearing on the writ petition filed against the long-term power trade agreement reached recently with India is underway in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

The hearing on the writ petition was scheduled by a full bench consisting of judges Prakashman Singh Raut, Sapna Pradhan Malla, and Mahesh Sharma, on Thursday.

Former Secretary Suryanath Upadhyaya had filed the writ seeking a halt on the implementation of the 10,000 power trade agreement reached between Nepal and India during External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar’s visit in January.

A single bench of Supreme Court Justice Nahakul Subedi issued a show cause notice to the government about the recently signed power trade deal with India, questioning whether the agreement requires to be endorsed by a two-thirds majority of both houses.

The joint bench of Justices Kumar Chudal and Saranga Subedi had endorsed the case to be submitted to the full bench.
