Health Ministry working to contain dengue outbreak, Minister claims

Kathmandu, July 23: Minister for Health and Population Pradip Poudel has stated that the ministry was working for the prevention and control of the dengue virus.     

Responding to the concerns raised in Tuesday's House meeting on a proposal of public importance for the control of dengue, Minister Poudel said the government is devising a strategy for the prevention and control of the dengue virus adding that the breeding places of mosquitoes have been sought and destroyed.     

Minister Poudel said that the Dengue Task Force was formed under the leadership of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division and the rapid response teams have been deployed at the province and local levels too.     

To run the search and destroy campaign in an intensive manner, almost 80 million has been allocated for the local levels and Rs 20 million for the districts.     

Saying that the number of dengue patients was on the rise in the monsoon season, Minister Poudel said rapid test kits have been managed.     

More than 800 doctors from private and government hospitals have been oriented on the national treatment system against dengue fever which is aimed at reducing the fatalities caused by dengue fever, Minister Poudel said.     

As per the government records, more than 1,800 patients of dengue fever were confirmed in 73 districts across the country.
