Lawmakers call for amending academic calendar for mountainous region

Kathmandu, April 23: Lawmakers representing from the mountainous region have demanded the government alter timing of academic calendar in the mountainous region. 

In a meeting today with the Minister of Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel at the ministry, lawmakers urged the government to manage academic calendar aligning with erratic weather condition in the region. 

Heavy snowfall that occurs in the Himalayan districts from mid-November to mid-February directly affects school operations, student attendance and overall academic calendar, they shared, arguing the need for considering changes in the calendar timing. 

In addition, the lawmakers requested the Education Minister to facilitate to address practical difficulties persist in student learning, educational infrastructure and resource management in the Himalayan region. 

On this occasion, Minister Pokharel expressed confidence that the government would play facilitating role in dealing with the issues in mountainous region. (RSS)
