Onions worth Rs. 1.18 million seized from Bardibas

By Our Correspondent,Bardibas, Apr. 10: The Armed Police Force Nepal has impounded a Balero pick-up along with smuggled Indian onions from Bardibas-3 of the BP Highway.

The checkpoint team of the APF at Gauridanda in Bardibas took control of the Balero pick-up with registration number Na 1 Ja 7903 with 2,58 kg of onions packed in 43 sacks.

When the pick-up heading towards Sindhuli was checked at around 7:00 pm on Monday, the APF team seized the onion after the driver showed an old receipt of the purchased goods with a different description.

According to SP Binod KC of Armed Police Force Nepal No. 9 Battalion Headquarters, Mahottari located in Jalsagar, the driver has shown an old receipt of the purchase of 8000 kg onion imported from India by passing Jaleshwar Customs on April 4 in the name of Akash Onion Store, Janakpur. But the seized quantity and the mentioned quantity in the receipt did not match, said SP KC. 

SP KC said that the number of the vehicle mentioned in the VAT bill of Akash Potato/Onion Store and the seized vehicle were also found to be different. 

The Armed Police Forces said that a detailed investigation is being carried out regarding the total transaction of the Akash Potato/Onion store and other activities.

The Armed Police Force office handed over the recovered onions with a reported value of Rs. 1.18 million to the Jaleshwar Customs on Tuesday.
