Vehicle used to dump hospital waste at night detained

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Urlabari, Apr. 5: Municipal police of Pathari Shanishchare Municipality have detained a vehicle which was dumping the hospital's garbage in the forest in midnight. 

Locals have been urging the municipality to manage waste properly and stop dumping garbage in the forest. 

However, when it was discovered that garbage was brought to the dumping site from the municipality during the night, locals accused the municipal police of taking bribes to allow the dumping of garbage in the forest area. 

Meanwhile, the municipal police detained a vehicle with a number plate 2 cha 3322 carrying hospital garbage to the dumping site on Tuesday night around 10 pm. 

The vehicle was registered in the name of Lolla Mallik of Birtamod-8.

The municipal police had intensified surveillance at the dumping site after receiving multiple complaints. Municipal Police Constable Bal Bahadur Gautam said that driver Binod Tharu and assistant driver Sushil Chaudhary were arrested and released on the condition that they would be present in the municipality when necessary. 

According to Surendra Rai, the Chief of the Environment and Waste Management Department of the municipality, the source of the hospital's garbage was still unidentified. 

Approximately three tons of waste are produced daily in the municipality.
