President appoints three province chiefs

BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Mar. 14: President Ramchandra Paudel has appointed new provincial chiefs in Madhes, Gandaki and Sudurpashchim provinces by relieving the old ones. 

The President on Wednesday appointed Sumitra Subedi Bhandari of Jhapa as Province Chief in Madhes, Dilliraj Bhatta of Kailali in Gandaki and Najir Miya of Arghakhanchi in Sudurpashchim. 

Issuing a press statement, Shailaja Regmi Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Office of the President, informed that the President appointed the province chiefs on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers as per Article 163 (2). 

Earlier today, the President relieved three provincial chiefs from their duty.

According to another press statement issued by spokesperson Bhattarai,  the President relieved the chief of Madhes Province, Hari Shankar Mishra, Gandaki Province Chief Prithvi Man Gurung and Sudurpashchim Province Chief Dev Raj Joshi. 

They were dismissed from their duty in accordance with the Article 165 (1) (B) of the Constitution of Nepal on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, read the statement.

A cabinet meeting held on March 11 decided to replace the three province chiefs affiliated with the Nepali Congress with those affiliated with the CPN-UML. The then Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government in 2021 appointed Mishra, Gurung and Joshi as province chiefs. 

President Paudel also administrated the oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed provincial chiefs amidst a function organised at the President’s Office on Wednesday.
