Renovation of Birendra Nagar clock tower in final stage

By Our Correspondent,Surkhet, Jan. 28: The renovation of the clock tower, a prominent tourist attraction in Birendra Nagar, Surkhet, has entered its final phase. Following the deterioration and partial collapse of the existing wall constructed years ago, the municipality initiated the construction of a new wall through a contract. Birendranagar Municipality has announced the completion of the first phase of wall construction, which commenced in May last year. Currently, the clock tower's wall has been successfully erected, and the finishing touches, including painting, are underway.

Namaste Construction Services undertook the responsibility for the wall construction, and the company is currently focused on installing the iron railing after completing the wall structure. As per the construction company's timeline, the installation of lights will be completed within a week, marking the project's conclusion. 

The newly constructed walls showcases artistic elements, incorporating stones from Rolpa. The municipality highlights its versatility, indicating that it can serve as a canvas for showcasing Surkhet's cultural heritage, with plans to adorn it with flowering plants akin to the Surkhet Chinari wall.

Ishwari Dhakal, the engineer of a local government, emphasized the enhanced visibility of the clock tower during night-time due to strategically placed lights on the wall. The initial phase of the Ghantaghar Park wall construction incurred a cost of 46 lakhs. Meanwhile, a contract has been awarded for the second phase, covering the remaining wall sections and the primary entrance gate of Ghantaghar Park, with Jagannath Construction overseeing the project at an estimated cost of around 5.5 million. The contractual agreement is expected to be in effect until the completion of the second phase in May. Notably, the clock housed within the tower, having served for almost 12 years and with an expenditure of 11.5 lakh rupees, has also been replaced.
