By Radhakrishna Dumre,Waling, Jan. 20: Folk singer Sita Pariyar is gaining popularity in the folk duet music area. Her popularity soared even higher after the elders of Lokdohori referred to her as a ‘Baglunge Koili'.Pariyar initially entered the music industry as a folk-duet singer alongside the renowned Prakash Saput.

Currently, she is engaged in shooting 6-7 duet songs per day.  Born in Galkot, Baglung, she has transformed Pokhara into a hub for her career. Despite managing family responsibilities, she travels to various locations, including Kathmandu, to perform her songs.

The festive season has added to her already busy schedule. Pariyar has garnered numerous awards, including the prestigious ‘Best Lok Dohori Singer’ award at the ‘Star Music and Film Awards- 2080’ for her song ‘Balewama Ghar Chha Panchebaja’.

Nepali song music is expanding globally through digital platforms, and live folk-duet songs are resonating with audiences worldwide.

Pariyar’s songs, in particular, are trending on YouTube, contributing to her widespread recognition.

Dedicating 16 years to the industry, Pariyar dominated folk-duet contests in Nepal a decade ago.

She earned the ‘Best Dohori Singer’ award at the ‘National Highlights Nepal Lok Dohori Award – 2070,’ and she also won a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 in the largest national open duet competition organised by the Kalyan Sherchan Smriti Pratisthan Nepal in Pokhara two years ago, beating other 47 groups. She also grabbed the award for the ‘Best Live Dohori Singer’ at the National Gandaki Music Award- 2080’ held in Pokhara.

Pariyar has also showcased her talent internationally, serving as a guest artist in a live folk-duet programme abroad, including the ‘Teej Dhamaka -2080’ organised by Galkot Society Japan. Despite residing in Mofasal, Pariyar remains popular among both new and seasoned duet singers.

Although folk-duet singing may seem entertaining and straightforward, experts emphasise its remarkable complexity.

The ability to capture the audience’s hearts in a matter of seconds through a combination of words, music, and voice requires exceptional knowledge, skills, and abilities in folk-duet songs.
